ABOUT ME

Katja Berger Master Ceramista 2_edited.jpg

from whom did I learn?

While studying journalism I discovered ceramics. It started as a hobby that became my trade. I trained at the Huara Huara Workshop in Chile between 1993 and 1996. I studied ceramics for a semester at UCLA in Santa Barbara, participated in seminars given by Warren McKenzie, Paul Soldner and Doug Casebeer, Yasuhisa Kohyama, Ellen Shankin, José Luis Yamunaque and in the VII Utilitarian Ceramic Symposium in Arrowmont USA in 2017. I don't miss the different online versions of the Ceramic Congress... I recommend it! In addition to the wonderful whistling vessels from the Argentinean Nómada Cerámica.

I founded Master Ceramista so that you can discover the alchemist in you.

I am excited to meet in our virtual classroom. I have explored glaze formulation for over twenty years. Curiosity has driven me to create thousands of samples with surprising and sometimes frustrating results. All this knowledge and experience I have condensed in the Master Ceramist online courses. I have taught glaze courses for more than 8 years. The Virtual Classroom has allowed sharing deep theoretical content complemented with practice in the workshop. The benefit for the students is immense.

MOTIVATION

What motivates me?

IMG_5746_edited_edited.jpg

What motivates me to teach? A few years ago I was faced with a debilitating disease and thought I would have to give up pottery. This led me to wonder what happened to all the knowledge I had accumulated.

When I recovered I decided to create Master Ceramista to share this knowledge. We all benefit if we do better work and enamels are a fundamental part of achieving this. If we all create better pieces, it increases the creative and aesthetic heritage of our community. And consequently, the value that society places on our work increases.

I want you to develop your trade to the fullest

your path to mastery can be shorter. knowledge will give you freedom.
